No More wait for wordpress 3.0

Today Matt announced the wordpress 3.0 launch. WordPress 3.0, is the 13th major release of the software, and contains over 2,700 changes. With this release wordpress is become the world’s most powerful and popular blogging system as well as cms.

I always believe wordpress is great cms for creating the most advanced cms and ecommerce and networking website.  Earlier wordpress mu was designed for Biggest corporate and companies and vast businesses.

What’s new in 3.0? One of the best ways to find out is to try out the new Twenty Ten theme, which shows off many of the release’s (which is also called “Thelonius”) major new features, including custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus, post types and taxonomies.

WordPress 3.0, the thirteenth major release of WordPress and the culmination of half a year of work by 218 contributors, is now available for download (or upgrade within your dashboard). Major new features in this release include a sexy new default theme called Twenty Ten. Theme developers have new APIs that allow them to easily implement custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus (no more file editing), post types, and taxonomies. (Twenty Ten theme shows all of that off.) Developers and network admins will appreciate the long-awaited merge of MU and WordPress, creating the new multi-site functionality which makes it possible to run one blog or ten million from the same installation. As a user, you will love the new lighter interface, the contextual help on every screen, the 1,217 bug fixes and feature enhancements, bulk updates so you can upgrade 15 plugins at once with a single click, and blah blah blah just watch the video. :) (In HD, if you can, so you can catch the Easter eggs.)

Beware the WordPress white screen of death

Woe to the WordPress administrator who finds only blank pages where once stood a WordPress-based blog or Web site. The site has been plagued with what an increasing number of WordPress operators are nicknaming the White Screen of Death.

Beware the WordPress white screen of death

As the nickname states, the White Screen of Death, WSoD, renders all the WordPress-built pages as a blank screen. But unlike the infamous Microsoft Windows Blue Screen of Death after which it was named, the WSoD does not offer any debugging code, or pointers to what might be causing the problem. Just a blank page where content once resided.

Worse yet, in addition to offlining a Web site or set of blog pages, the bug can also render invisible the WordPress Web-based administrator console, in which some debugging could occur.

The true cause of WSoD cannot be traced to any individual cause, or even to the WordPress code itself, but rather to a conflation of issues around the technology WordPress uses, as well as how the software is augmented by others.

“Our hands … are mostly tied here, especially since WordPress is extended through code from others,” said Andrew Nacin, a WordPress developer, in an e-mail interview.

The good news is that the developers of WordPress offer some simple hints at how to debug the problem, and they promise more measures to thwart the appearance of blank screens in the upcoming version 3.0 release of the software, which should be posted within a few weeks.

Since its first release in 2003, WordPress has played a pivotal role in the emergence of blogs on the Web. An open-source project, it is free to download, and Redwood City, California-based Automattic offers a hosted version of the blogging software, which runs more than 11 million blogs.

Organizations are also considering using WordPress as a low-cost content management system.

WordPress is a modular program. It is actually built with other open-source tools, most notably the PHP Web scripting language. In order to construct a WordPress page, the Web server software executes a series of PHP scripts using a PHP processing module, drawing the content from a database, usually MySQL.

While the WordPress package offers the basic ability to run a blog, most of the additional functionality comes from plug-ins developed by third-parties. Likewise, the look-and-feel of a WordPress blog can be altered by using themes, or templates also generated by third parties.

Some of these of plugs-ins and themes are better constructed than others. And that's where the problem begins.

“Generally, you'll see [a blank page] when PHP hits a brick wall before the browser is served any output,” Nacin said.

Following is update from twitter account of wordpress.com

Update #2: “We’ve isolated the issue on WordPress.com, and we are working on a fix.”

Update #3: “The vast majority of blogs are back up, bringing up the rest over the next few minutes after we verify them. — Matt Mullenweg”

Update #4: “That’ll come up later, probably in an hour or two. Focused on blogs right now.”

Update #5: “We’re focused on blogs right now — the ones still down, then home page, then stats, in that order.”

Millions of blogs had shown following message today

Software publisher Automattic, which runs WordPress.com, went down today and took millions of blogs and other websites with it. Sites down were WordPress.com hosted websites, VIP WordPress sites (like Anderson Cooper’s CNN Blog), link shortener WP.me, WordPress.tv, Automattic.com and probably more.

Automattic’s founder Matt Mullenweg’s personal website ma.tt was still online along with other Automattic websites:

* WordPress.org
* bbPress.org
* BuddyPress.org
* Gravatar.com
* PollDaddy.com

WordPress.org software installations on private servers were not affected by the outage. Domain name registrar GoDaddy was attacked with malware on Tuesday (June 8) which infected a number of WordPress installations hosted on them. Today’s problem at WordPress.com was not a security issue according to founder Mullenweg.

Twitter is scanning all shortened URLs befor being posted

Twitter is routing links within Direct Messages through our link service to detect, intercept, and prevent the spread of malware, phishing, and other dangers. Any link shared in a Direct Message has been wrapped with a twt.tl URL.

Links reported to us as malicious are blacklisted, and we present users with a page that warns them of potentially malicious content if they click blacklisted links. Twitter wants users to have this benefit on all tweets.

Raffi Krikorian, a technical lead on the Twitter Platform Team, explained in a Google Groups posting that the t.co system will always format links to 20 characters.

Additionally, as we mentioned at our Chirp developer conference in April, if you want to share a link through Twitter, there currently isn’t a way to automatically shorten it and we want to fix this. It should be easy for people to share shortened links from the Tweet box on Twitter.com.

To meet both of these goals, we’re taking small steps to expand the link service currently available in Direct Messages to links shared through all Tweets. We’re testing this link service now with a few Twitter employee accounts.

This change will is specially made for mobile users. In addition to a better user experience and increased safety, routing links through this service will eventually contribute to the metrics behind our Promoted Tweets platform and provide an important quality signal for our Resonance algorithm—the way we determine if a Tweet is relevant and interesting to users. We are also looking to provide services that make use of this data, an example would be analytics within our eventual commercial accounts service.

Yahoo and Facebook Users now exchange content and data

Yahoo users can now view their Facebook News Feed via their Yahoo home page, Yahoo Mail, and other Yahoo sites, the company said. Additionally, content created on Yahoo sites, including Yahoo News, Sports, Movies and the photo-site Flickr, can be shared with friends on Facebook.

Ethan Beard, director of Facebook Developer Network, was quoted in the Yahoo statement saying that, “by integrating with Facebook on a global scale, Yahoo is building upon an already valuable brand to give people easy ways to share the content they enjoy on Yahoo! with their friends on Facebook.”

Yahoo offered more details of the way people can connect with Facebook sites on its blog, but Facebook remained mum on the issue early Monday, without any details in its press center, blog or twitter feed. The most recent communications on these pages largely addressed privacy concerns.

Yahoo and Facebook first announced a plan to integrate services much more closely last December. At the time, Yahoo users in the U.S. were able to call up their Facebook activity streams and post status updates from the Yahoo home page, as well as use buttons to share certain Yahoo content. The companies promised much more this year via the use of Facebook’s Connect technology across Yahoo sites.

Google Chrome OS will be released during fourth quarter

Google vice president of product management Sundar Pichai told an audience at Computex that the Chrome OS would launch by the fourth quarter.

“When asked about the Chrome vs. Android debate, Mr. Pichai said that providing open source platforms will allow the market to make the best determination about what operating system will work best in the mass market,” TheChromeSource reported.

Announced in November 2009, Chrome OS was designed to be an ultrathin OS, designed with just enough code to push a user online, where the Chrome Web browser could take over. In the meantime, however, Google’s more full-featured Android OS has also fared well, proving to be a popular mobile OS for smartphones and other connected devices.

Google representatives could not be reached for comment by press time.

Skype with 3G Phone – with Iphone and Ipad

Now Skype with 3G Phone – with Iphone and Ipad. Skype on Saturday released an upgrade to its iPhone app that allows calls to be made and received under AT&T’s 3G network, but there’s a catch — they won’t be free for very long, even for Skype-to-Skype calls or for people who have all-you-can-eat calling plans with the internet telephony company.

Skype with 3G Phone – with Iphone and Ipad

No specific pricing or even timeline was announced, but the release notes of version 2.0.0 (to the right) say this feature will be free only “until at least the end of August 2010, after which there will be a small monthly fee.”

All of this became possible only after Apple changed its iPhone SDK in anticipation of the iPad.

Skype pronouced on Feb 3 that 3G calling would happen “soon.” But the additional cost was not trumpeted and does comes as a surprise, though perhaps not a terribly big one given the revenue possibilities and the additional strain on AT&T’s already-vilified 3G network.

Skype calls are generally free or at least much less expensive than those made on minute-counting calling plans. But wireless minutes have become largely commoditized and, from most wireless carriers, available in unlimited plans that eliminate the traditional profit center that used to be overages.

Skype’s migration from the desktop on to mobile devices has created the potential for a dramatic shift in calling behavior. We aren’t quite there yet. But when you can receive calls from an VoIP provider like Skype on a portable device in either an WiFi or 3G network it almost completely blurs the line between an interesting alternative to a telephone and the very definition of a telephone.

Taking that one small step further: In a world with ubiquitous broadband, internet telephony with push notifications and location awareness could make traditional telco and wireless services irrelevant, even for the equivalent of enhanced 911, where the automatically operator knows where you are.

There are still some pieces missing to this puzzle, but the availability of VoIP under 3G — also true of Fring and for international calls on some Android-powered handsets provided by Verizon — is a big step forward.

And, one last thing: iPhone OS 4, expected in weeks, will enable non-core apps like Skype to operate in the background. Which means that you could be online with the internet telephony service all the time on any 3G enabled device like the iPhone and some models of the iPad.

Apple Confirmed about issue with Wi-Fi and iPad

The apple very successfully launched the ipad. They just sold 300,000 ipads in single weekend. “Weak Wifi Pages” already has over 10,000 views – remarkable since it’s only been 48 hours since the official iPad launch.

Apple Confirmed about issue with Wi-Fi and iPad

There is very serious issue with ipad and wi-fi router connection. So many people are struggling with wireless network and ipad. Another issue being reported is the iPad’s continuous request for re-authentication to a secured wireless router, even after a successful, initial connection to it.

What you can do with wi-fi and ipad issue.

If you’re an early adopter experiencing connectivity issues there are a few things you can do to until Apple comes up with a more definitive explanation and fix for this problem:

* Update Your Router’s Firmware. Before attempting to connect an iPad to a home network, make sure that you have the latest version of the firmware to ensure that the router is functioning at full capability. This is usually done within the router’s included software.

* Change The Router’s Location. Do you have your router positioned in close proximity to equipment that could be causing interference? Microwaves, cordless phones, baby monitors, wireless keyboards, and Bluetooth devices can muddy a W-Fi signal.

* Set Your Router To Operate On One 802.11 Standard. Most current routers support not only 802.11n, but a, b, and g as well. Set your router to operate exclusively on the greatest standard available, and do the same with the wireless devices on your network. The iPad ships with support for 802.11n, so you should have your router match that if possible.

* Change Your Router’s Security Encryption. Typically, security isn’t something that should be experimented with, but when attempting to boost network performance, it may be necessary. There’s no question that WPA and WPA2 encryption is more secure than WEP, but the jury’s still out about which encryption method can slow a network down more (some believe it’s WEP and others WPA). If you have either currently deployed in your home network, try changing to a different encryption setting and see if that makes any difference in your connectivity. Apple also recommends that you use the same security settings across the entire network.

* Rename Your Networks. Apple makes the somewhat odd suggestion that users rename their networks. “Create separate Wi-Fi network names to identify each band. This can be done easily by appending one or more characters to the current network name. Example: Add a G to the 802.11b/g network name and an N to the 802.11n network name.”

Google launched the google Buzz teen safety tips video

In this February google launched the google buzz that time many people asked questions about safety and security. On this monday google start to users to reconfirm their privacy settings.
Google really take attention over teenager.They launched the one you tube video about teen safery tips.

Google launched the google Buzz teen safety tips video

I personally liked this video very much and every google buzz user need to watch this video at least one time.

As per this video you can set the following privacy settings.

1. Keep your private information private. Posting publicly on the Web means that whatever you post is visible to all of your followers. It shows up on your public Google profile and may appear in Google search results.

2. Know who’s following you. Buzz sends a notification after someone starts following you and you can chose to block them. If you block someone Buzz doesn’t send them a message so they won’t necessarily know they’ve been blocked.

3. Control your Google profile. Before you can post on Buzz, you have to set up a public profile, but you don’t have to share anything more than your first and last name on the profile. The video reminds you that if you have a photo associated with your Gmail account, “you can chose to use this use this as your profile photo as well” but you can change or remove the photo if you don’t want it to be public. You can also elect whether you want your list of followers to show up publicly on your profile.

4. Manage posts and comments. Teens are reminded that they can edit and delete their own posts and delete any comments on your posts and you can remove comments you’ve made on other people’s posts.

5. Know how to turn it off. If you no longer want to use Buzz, you can disable it from Gmail settings. You can also hide Buzz in Gmail but still get it on your phone.

As we know wordpress 3.0 beta is released yesterday and as per wordpress team they merged the classic wordpress and wordpressMU.

But when we do installation of wordpress 3.0. There is no multiblog  facility available. For using the multiblog functionality we need to to some manual changes in code.

In this article I will tell you few steps about using the multiblog functionality in wordpress 3.0 beta.

First open the wp-config file and put following lines in that

define ('WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true  ) ;

Use following steps also
1 First, back up your exisiting wp-config.php and .htaccess files.

2. Create a blogs.dir directory under /wp-content/
This directory is used to stored uploaded media for your additional sites and must be writeable by the web server. They should be CHOWNed and CHMODed the same as your wp-content folder.

3. Add the extra lines provided to your wp-config.php file

These lines are dynamicly generated for you based on your configuration.

Put these lines right under the wp_allow_multisite line, mostly for readability.
Note: If you are installing in a folder the base and path will contain the folder name.

4. Replace the content of your .htaccess file with the following

(If there isn’t one, then create it.)

These lines are dynamicly generated for you based on your configuration.

5. Once the above steps are completed and the new wp-config.php & .htaccess files are saved, refresh your dashboard.
You will now see a new menu section called Super Admin. The menus contained in there are for adding and managing additional sites in your network. Your base WordPress install is now the main site in your network.
